You do not need to endure pain and suffering when losing weight. I feel like I should repeat that statement just to help it sink in a little bit. YOU really do not need to endure pain or suffering to lose weight. The reality is that IF you just made a slight adjustment in your mental thinking, you could lose weight and improve your quality of life, with relative ease.
Is all that you need to do is to realize the power of the Reticular Activator – something we all have in our brain; and I’ll share some suggestions to tweak your mental approach toward weight loss.
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is like a traffic cop in your head. Your mind (with the aid of all of your senses) has the ability to process hundreds of thousands of bits of information a second – it’s the best computer ever designed. And the RAS is the traffic cop.
For example, let’s say you are at a noisy party, dozens of conversations going on and you can barely hear the people standing next to you for all of the clamoring. But then, out of nowhere – boom – you hear your own name being said and you immediately tune into that specific conversation all of the way across the room. They used to call this the ‘Cocktail Party Syndrome’. It is because your conscious mind has told your unconscious mind that YOU are important to you – so your RAS is always on high alert for YOU – things like your name.
Here’s another example: You buy a new car. Now you start to see that same model at every street corner but you never noticed so many of them previously. Because now that you have that specific car, your conscious mind has told your unconscious mind that YOUR new car is important to you. Are you catching on to how this works?
You see, whatever reality you decide consciously to embrace, your subconscious mind becomes servant to it. THE SAME IS TRUE WITH WEIGHT LOSS.
If you embraced a strong vision of yourself as slim and healthy, the RAS will allow the world to open up to you in that manner. It really will. Perhaps it will open up to you in ways such as now you will begin to notice:
- healthier options for eating out
- that the fruits and vegetables at the grocery store are more appealing
- more activity options such as a walking trail or a fitness center you never realized was there
- new friends who are active and less obese or more aware of how they take care of themselves
Or maybe you will start to realize that your current habits or friends are actually very poor choices to fit YOUR new image – your new chosen lifestyle and health and wellness.
You are beautiful as you are. You are a child of the king and are destined for greatness. But you also recognize that NOW is the time to start making changes. Why else would you have stumbled upon this article? You see, because you are ready for change your RAS opened you up to seeing this article -otherwise it would have sat buried in plain sight for you to never discover.
Want to know something else? Do you know that you are capable of embracing hunger? Another little mental tweak that will empower you toward weight loss. Does hunger suck? Maybe, maybe not. It depends on how you think about it. If you mentally recognized hunger pains as pounds literally falling off of your body, do you know that you would look forward to feeling hungry because you would recognize that it is a good thing.
