Indulge in local culinary delights and craft cocktails while staying at the “world’s most photographed hotel.”

The capital of Quebec has become synonymous with old-world European flair and architecture—and while it does offer one of the best historic cityscapes in the country, modern Quebec City is so much more than its storied past. Case in point: food, wine, and superb hospitality.

Whether you’re looking for decadent Quebecois fare and local wine to wash it all down—or you’re in the mood for a quick pint before heading out to explore all the historic offerings within the fortified town, here is exactly where you’ll want to eat, drink, and stay on your next trip to Quebec City.

Le Clan

Helmed by renowned local chef Stéphane Modat, Le Clan has become the hottest address in Quebec City since its opening this fall.

The cozy restaurant is tucked into an unassuming block in Vieux Quebec and serves up unforgettable gastronomic treats—from Quebec classics to Canadian fare like scallop tartare and foie gras. The wine list is also not to be missed, with bottles ranging from local natural wine to more bold French flavors.

Champlain Restaurant

Classic fine dining meets modern Quebec at the Champlain Restaurant in Le Château Frontenac. The landmark restaurant features cutting edge regional cuisine in a gorgeous dining space that dates back over a century.

We recommend grabbing a seat by the roaring fire or nestled into the wine cellar and enjoying the five-course ‘discovery’ tasting menu. This culinary delight rotates based on the seasons but you can expect classic dishes like scallop ceviche, Atlantic sturgeon caviar, and duck magret.

Restaurant Le Continental

Located in a house built in 1845, Restaurant Le Continental is the oldest gourmet restaurant in Quebec City—and it’s a must visit for the experience alone. This well-loved Quebecois address features tableside flambés and ceasar salads prepared right in front of your eyes.

The old-fashioned restaurant is, in short, a decadent dinner and a show wrapped into one white-gloved bow.

1608 Bar

Tucked into the back lobby of Le Château Frontenac, the 1608 Bar is going to be your best bet for craft cocktails—whether a classic martini or something more creative.

Named after the year Quebec was founded, the stunning wine and cocktail bar overlooks the Saint Lawrence River and the Quebec City boardwalk, offering some of the most striking views in the city.

Bar Le Sacrilège

Quebec City used to be a very religious town—and Bar Le Sacrilège takes that biblical past and turns it into a punchline.

Grab a seat (or a spot on one of the bar’s many repurposed church pews) and enjoy the myriad of local beer, wine, and Quebecois snacks (including surprisingly decadent cheese and charcuterie boards).

Pub Nelligan’s

Conveniently located in the heart of Vieux Quebec, Pub Nelligan’s is going to be your best bet for a no-frills pint of stout in a classic Irish pub setting.

The unassuming haunt serves up a healthy selection of local microbrews and international classics. Nelligan’s also has a wide selection of Scotch and whiskey—including tasting flights.

Fairmont Le Château Frontenac

Whether you’re familiar with the name or not so much—chances are good you already recognize Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. The well-loved Quebec City address dating back to 1893 happens to be the most photographed hotel in the world—and for good reason!

The sprawling property boasts 611 guest rooms and suites (including rooms named after Quebecois celebrities like Celine Dion and Justin Trudeau) and has positioned itself as a resort within the city, with many visitors checking in only to spend their entire trip exploring the storied halls and many bars and restaurants.

Club Med Québec-Charlevoix

Looking to hit the slopes during your Quebecois getaway? You’ll want to head to the newly opened Club Med Québec-Charlevoix.

The first and only Club Med in Quebec is only about an hour outside of Quebec City and offers a luxurious escape to the mountains with world-class ski hills, dining, and spa services.
