Stacey Robbins is more than a talented motivational source, she is a brilliant writer that gives inspiration to people suffering disease. One of the key ideas of this book is that people need to start loving themselves in order to reach a full recovery. The book conveys these ideas with humor and happiness to let the reader know that they are not alone. Unfortunately, Hashimoto’s disease is still relatively unknown in the world of Western medicine. For this reason, suffers are often left to their own devices for treatment. This is an unfortunate, but realistic, situation for many different people. While there are many different coping mechanisms, Robbins uses her wit and intellect to deal with her problems and to help others.

Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the body begins to attack itself. The symptoms can be confusing for the sufferer, particularly when medical tests often reveal that nothing is wrong. Another key aspect of this book is learning to know your own body. If you feel that something is truly off, don’t hesitate to continue to search until there is an adequate solution. Robbins recounts personal anecdotes of her own struggle that resonate with the reader. For situations like this, it is best to laugh so as not to cry. Robbins does an amazing job of balancing humor with serious subjects. Not only does this make the message appealing to her target audience, but to anyone who has ever encountered struggle.

In addition to writing about personal breakthroughs and spiritual insights, the author is able to drop nuggets of wisdom and caring for Hashimoto’s disease. One of the biggest obstacles is explaining the condition to friends and loved ones. While this can be delicate for some, there are plenty of tips to get this all out in the open. Additionally, there are tips that will help sufferers to be less impacted by their condition. While it can be very difficult to navigate with world with such a condition, it is important to recognize that sufferers need to continue loving themselves. Humor, breakthroughs, and happiness are abundant in You’re Not Crazy and You’re Not Alone. The biggest takeaways of the book are that Hashimoto’s disease is manageable with a little patience and care, and not to get too discouraged if things seem hard. The author does a good job of meshing science with practical wisdom. This is a highly recommended read that could vastly improve the lives of sufferers of Hashimoto’s disease.
